Others find love in people, I found a favourite sw Others find love in people, I found a favourite swimming place and that is worth A LOT. I think the only time I went to an indoor swimming pool in the last few years was for diving lessons. Regular swimming pools being too sporty for me and the historic ones being… too posh?! I don’t know. Anyways, I found MY historic bathhouse (in Barmbek, therefore not to posh lol) and I’m a regular and I come here to swim and read and have a glass of wine. MAYBE I will also someday be brave enough to visit the other two historic places in Hamburg (Holthusen & Kaifu) but maybe they are too spa-y for me? By the way, I of course deepdived into Hamburg’s pre-war bathouses and will be slightly annoying if you ever choose to accompany me. #Tröpferlbad
Yea well, it is best nine time! I noticed a while Yea well, it is best nine time! I noticed a while back that my “going swimming” post ratio this year is definitely the most fakey component here. Surprisingly most days I don’t go swimming at all. But for the sake of it: My favourite swim-venture this year was visiting Gänsehäufelbad in Vienna, and those pictures didn’t even make the cut here. Apart from bodies of warer, this year was not that nice. Bye! #bestnine

Annual Traditions - Flying Home (to the family) fo Annual Traditions - Flying Home (to the family) for Christmas. Last year I got the feedback from the lovely crew I flew with that the nose should be red rather that black. So, well: done.
The journey itself was rather chaotic, got cancelled twice and then delayed. Unfortunately I have no connections to flight ops - i would love to understand the problems today. To me, the weather seemed fine (cold, but blue skies all over Europe) and in Hamburg, only my airline seemed to be affected. (Hope it’s not everyone in the cabin struggling with the flu/covid/nasty stuff.) However, I made it in the end and merry christmas to all of you!
Animals I personally met (sometimes one-sided) on Animals I personally met (sometimes one-sided) on the Seychelles. This is an educational post, therefore there are labels with names, and also because I might forget them myself. Some photos aren‘t that good, but I actually became more observant of birbs & friends over the years and why not share my excitement over new local critters I saw here? (Feels like catching regional Pokémon, not gonna lie.)
Due to the geographic location of the Seychelles, the fauna is especially special. Take the gecko for example - I took the photo on Silhouette Island, 20km from Mahé Island. I‘m not even sure if it is a Seychelles Giant Day Gecko (Phelsuma sundbergi sundbergi), could also be a Mahé Day Gecko (Phelsuma sundbergi longinsulae) - every island is different. So great!

According to Google reviewers, Anse Source D‘Arg According to Google reviewers, Anse Source D‘Argent is overrated, crowded, packed with coupled doong wedding shootings and overall a big diappointment. Indeed, you have to pay an entrace fee (not for the beach, but the road to the beach, technically you could also sneak in swimming)(notice the name)… so absolutely believable that it is that one over crowded spot on La Digue. But then it wasn‘t. There were only a handful people there, no wedding shootings (a bit sad even, I love to observe the romantic vision of a beach wedding clashing with being all dressed up in the heat, sweat ruining the make up and trying to look happy anyway) and it was just really really pretty. So glad we didn‘t trust the reviews.

Lufthansa welcomed their first Boeing 787 Dreamlin Lufthansa welcomed their first Boeing 787 Dreamliner to their fleet recently, D-ABPA („The Papa Alpha“ if you want to be cool). To groove in, it is used for a couple of days on the regular FRA-MUC route, before it goes into service on longhaul routes. Those are the first flights with passengers for the crews so it important to test a bit, for example, in Business Class, there is a three-point seatbelt that has to be worn and everything has to be put in the overhead bins during takeoff and landing. A lot of passengers also needed help with the mechanism to unfold the table - it‘s good to gain some experience with PAX before going on long flights with a new aircraft type.

The aurcraft was originally built for Hainan Airlines, but they cancelled due to the Covid crisis so Lufthansa took over, rebranded everything, but kept the original seats, so this plane cones with an 1-2-1 layout in Business Class, which is not yet the standard for Lufthansa.

Well, I got super eager and booked myself a Business Class ticket for one of those flights early on an make a little detour via FRA on my way to Munich. Because the Business is super special here, and being on the plane in Eco would have been nice also, but honestly it would not have felt that differently for my butt. Looked super chill, but then I got waitlisted upon check-in after all🥺… probably because Business was overbooked. So I put on my accidently Lufthasa yellow blazer to tell the universe I really need some luck here (and make it more cinematic for everyone if I get downgraded) and it worked! I was even given a window seat which I wanted so much!

I was a super cool experience, the crew was probably the nicest I ever had, happily letting me keep a security card and switching the window darkener thingy (Dreamliner specialty) back on on ground so I could play around.💕

Have I ignored that this is a 15 min walk from where I’ve lived for almost ten years? Yes. When I finally did research on the potential nearest (not too sporty) swimming pool, was it closed for forever for renovation? Also yes. They reopened this week and we might become FRIENDS.

Hi, I did my 4th annual Alster paddling thingy las Hi, I did my 4th annual Alster paddling thingy last weekend. “Only” did Ohlstedt - Ohlsdorf this time. Here is what I’ve learned:
1.) First time I did this on a rather cloudy day and I enjoyed it far less. The green was less vibrant, I was a bit cold, on a sunny day, there are way more people around. I don’t like it super crowded, but paddling for hours without seeing anyone is a tiny bit creepy on a summer day - especially compared to my previous experiences. Weather forecast was also not optimal, so I only paddled until late afternoon to make sure I can still dry the boat just fine and be home before the rain
2.) My new boat is cool, but really a pain to carry alone. I need a new masterplan for locks, I literally have bruises from fancy carrying techniques I tried at the first lock. Until I completely unloaded it like a sissy. Also it is unfortunately way more tedious to dry.
3.) There were SO MANY more trees in the way. I’ve done the tour 3 times before, normally you get 1-2 new trees per year, maybe 5 significant obstacles in total (often it gets easier to get around them with time) - this year there were like 15? Don’t get me wrong, i love obstacles, it makes everything feel more wilderness, but I felt sorry for nature. All those heavy storms…
4.) Saw horsies and that was very cute, unfortunately they were pretty spooked by me (and/or the boat), so I was a good citizen and did not stick around longer to take photos.
Well. See you next year, hopefully on a sunny day!

Seriously, I‘ve never bern great with people and two years and counting of Home Office and pandemic make me feel like I unlearned a lot in the social department. It‘s sad. Sometimes I don‘t see my colleagues in 3D for weeks, some for months. I miss a lot of them (in very varying degrees). But I also feel a bit like an astronaut re-meeting gravity, only in a very socially anxious way. One thing I do now is dressing up a little (more than at home of course, no reason to wear anything other than peak comfy clothes if not on video) because me ✨cosplay✨ helps me with dealing with stuff. I‘m not perceived as miserable out-of-touch fool, MAGIC. (I am not too miserable, I‘m dramatizing for the gram, but honestly: When will it get better already? Instead of getting WORSE?)
